Second Chance Canine Adoption Shelter started with a dream of former Onondaga County Executive, Joanie Mahoney. The brilliant idea of pairing up inmates with shelter dogs was a sure way to give second chances to both the inmates and the dogs! The dogs are placed up for adoption, and the inmates can utilize the skills acquired in a productive way as they enter back into the Central New York Community.
On October 16, 2015, the Second Chance Adoption Shelter opened its doors! We are proud to say all of the dogs we rescue are local dogs from our overcrowded city shelter. The shelter is open Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.!
Click the DONATE button below to make your tax deductible donation now! No amount is too big or too small. 100% of every donation goes to helping the dogs at the shelter! Thank you for your support!
We are determined to provide the safest environment for our volunteers, dogs, and adopting families. To help prevent the spread of the virus and not knowing what the next few weeks will look like, the shelter will be closed during business hours on Saturdays and Sundays. We are still accepting adoption applications, which you can email to us, and we will be scheduling visits and adoptions. We are always in need of supplies and monetary donations. Please click the donate link above to help us continue to care for our dogs! We would be happy to arrange a time to pick up any supplies you are willing to donate, just email or message us on Facebook. We hope everyone stays safe and healthy. Thank you for your support during this difficult time!
