Saving the souls of humans and the lives of canines!
Second Chance Canine Adoption Shelter is an innovative and progressive program that pairs incarcerated inmates at Jamesville Correctional Facility with dogs rescued off the streets of the city of Syracuse for mutual rehabilitation. The inmates work with a certified trainer to acquire the handling skills needed to train the dogs.
Program Goals:
The goal of the program is to aid in the rehabilitation of both humans and canines.
Inmate Selection:
Inmate selection is based on conduct while incarcerated and demonstrated interest in the program. Inmates must have zero, or very few write-ups. We do exclude any with a history of animal abuse. All of these inmates will be released back into society.
Inmates who complete the program will receive a certificate of completion to help them find a job when released.
